A Place That Does Not Change

Written August 23rd, 2026 by MT Pearson.

Find me there,
Within somewhere,
Some little place that does not change.
Within my home,
My time alone,
In my place that does not change.

The streets that surround me,
Astound and confound me,
They harbor none of what I knew.
I may deal with it for a time,
But I must return to what is mine,
Somewhere memory strikes true.

People will surely know of today
In dreams, facades, a masquerade
They don’t see what some will say
Is a place that does not change.

In time, I am sure
My own dreams will fade away
Gone in a moment,
escaped and obscured,
It may just happen today.

I know, though, within me,
And without me, all around
In that special place, in my mind I still can see,
My old memories will still abound,
In my place that does not change.

I beg you now,
With your shovels and your plows,
Your plans for great constructions,
Rearrangements and grand productions,
Your lights, your news, your rapid change,
Your modern ways and their arrange,
Please, oh please, do not touch,
Please, I beg you, do not range,
Upon the ground so sacred to me,
My special place that does not change.
